A burgundy Themba Club protocol card

Themba Protocol

The shared protocol for verified value.

Portable verified records. Contextual savings and wallet environments. Sustainability as economic infrastructure.

Development stage · 2026

01 / The opportunity

Accelerated economic expansion.
Through contextualised ecosystems based on open digital architecture.

Is it time for ecosystems anchored in sustainability principles to create a new springboard for economic activity while enhancing data governance and value creation?

1.2bn+

People across the Global South whose real economic work goes unrecorded in any form capital can read.

USD 44bn in annual African climate-finance flows meets only about 23% of stated need.

01

>90%

Of evidence stays locked inside one platform, one lender or one country. Every new institution checks the same claim again.

African carbon-project verification remains reliant on international providers.

02

600m

People in Sub-Saharan Africa still live without electricity access, and when verified value is paid for, those producing the evidence rarely receive a fair, predictable share.

Sources

Indicative figures drawn from the World Bank, IEA and Africa climate-finance and carbon-market reporting. Detailed sources are available in the institutional briefing.

02 / The protocol

One shared answer beneath many sectors.

Each sector measures its own evidence. Themba carries it into the financial system in a common, portable form.

Catalyst, not competitor.

01

Sustainability toolkit

Practical instruments for measuring and recording economic activity, so every sector can produce verified evidence in a consistent form.

02

Data portability

Verified records belong to those who created them and move across platforms, lenders and borders.

03

Verification as a service

Institutions confirm a claim on demand without rebuilding the original evidence chain.

04

Governance written into code

Rules for sharing value are set in advance and applied to every contributor on the same evidence.

05

Ecosystem resilience

Verified sustainable participation becomes a foundational economic layer and a potential form of universal basic income.

06

Super intelligence preparedness

Verified records, shared governance and portable evidence give the Global South the data foundation advanced systems will be built on, so super intelligence serves its economies rather than interprets them from outside.

03 / Themba Club

A data wallet built to accumulate meaning.

Themba Club is the user-facing layer: trusted identity, portable evidence, contextual savings and network effects, anchored in sustainability rather than consumption.

  • A personal or entity wallet for verified activity
  • Savings environments spanning energy, materials, tenancy, devices and household finance
  • Participation that can translate into economic rights, access or income streams
  • Access to patience as an element of finance, through anchored sustainability instruments

04 / Indicative action

First application:
plastic accountability.

The Plastic Accountability Certificate is the live testbed: a focused path to proving how evidence can be captured, verified, moved and valued.

The work now concentrates on protocol primitives, certificate rails, governance rules and the first vertical’s institutional partnerships.

Reading the shift.
Three quick reads from LC².

Short notes from the Lifecycle Complete research desk on why verified, portable records are becoming economic infrastructure.

Twenty-Five Shillings.

A household in Kenya pays twenty-five shillings a day for a solar system, through mobile money. In July 2025 those payments were bundled into a KES 20.1 billion securitisation, the largest ever completed in Sub-Saharan Africa outside South Africa, funded by five commercial banks with three development finance institutions taking the junior risk.

Why it matters for Themba: Resolution sets the ceiling. Fine records can always be aggregated into rated instruments; coarse records cannot be disaggregated into fine ones. That asymmetry decides what an economy can finance.

Priced at Cost.

China now lets companies put data on the balance sheet. By December 2025, 136 listed firms had done it, recognising around 3.8 billion yuan in data assets. The first securitisation backed purely by data assets came to market in May 2026.

Why it matters for Themba: Data is already being treated as a financeable asset. The open question is whose records qualify, and whether the people who generate them share in the value.

What the System Remembers.

In 1964 a company on the S&P 500 stayed there for an average of thirty-three years. By 2016 the figure was twenty-four, and forecasts put it near twelve by 2027. Empires still rise and fall. They simply do it faster.

Why it matters for Themba: When institutions turn over faster, proof cannot live inside any single one of them. Records must be portable to outlast the platforms that first captured them.
